2022 Crawford Family Wines, Monarc, 2022
What we thought would most likely be a one-time thing has turned into a string of vintages for this wine now. The 2022 is just the second release but we have another two vintages waiting in the wings after this one is released. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre which is not a normal thing for us, at all. We have made Cabernet for a client for the last couple of years and despite it not fitting in with our cool climate approach, we have really liked the wine. The Mourvèdre comes from Broken Oak vineyard which we’ve been making for the last 20+ years. When the owners of the two vineyards got together and wanted to make a blend of their wines, we were happy to help. The only caveat was, we get some of it! We’ve got 84 cases of it this year, so there’s still not much of it to go around. MONARC is an anagram for the two growers’ names, Norm and AC. Norm grows the Cabernet Sauvignon and AC grows the Mourvèdre.
