2017 Syrah, Zotovich
Our 2017 Syrah from Zotovich Vineyard falls right in line with the several vintages of this wine. Dark as can be with a heady aroma of dark fruits and rich earthy spice. This year, for a number of reasons, this wine lived for 35 months in barrel! That’s a record for us. We just kept looking at it and tasting its development and coupled that with a lack of need to rush it into bottle and that led to a very long élevage. Grown in the deep sandy soils of Zotovich Vineyard where it is meticulously cared for and ripens slowly in the cool, foggy Sta. Rita air, this is a wine to take your time with and allow to develop in the glass with some air. There is a lot going on in this wine and it is perhaps my favorite vintage to date. This wine was bottled on October 2nd, 2020, so please keep that in mind as you open your wine club shipments. It would benefit greatly from a few months of rest before you dig in. But if you’re as anxious taste as I often am, just make sure it gets some time to breathe.
