2015 Zotovich Syrah
Zotovich Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills
For 2015 our Syrah from Zotovich Vineyard falls right in line with what we think good cold climate Syrah should be. Dark as can be with a heady aroma of dark fruits and rich earthy spice. From the moment we see this fruit begin to develop in the vineyard until it is fermented and pressed off we enjoy a sense of excitement over this wine. This is one of our favorite wines to make and the anticipation of what it will become as it goes through the various stages of winemaking is always fun to experience. Grown in the deep sandy soils of Zotovich Vineyard where it is meticulously cared for and ripens slowly in the cool, foggy Sta. Rita air, we think you will share in some of that excitement the moment you pour some in a glass.
This wine has an inky dark opaque purple color. On the nose, classic dark fruits like black cherry and plum stand out along with a mineral laden earthiness. On the pallet more of those dark fruits are present wrapped in a round, glossy mouth-feel. Despite the apparent richness of this wine in both color and aroma it is remarkably light on its feet. Medium body with crisp, cold climate acidity keeping it fresh and lively.
