Zotovich Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills
This is a wine we’ve been looking forward to getting back in our line-up for a few years now. There is nothing like dark, rich, cold climate Syrah. Whether it’s fermenting here in the winery or when it’s finally in your glass, it is one of the most satisfying wines I’ve ever made. Rich and earthy, with lots of dark fruits but these wines tend to be tightly wound around a backbone of crisp, slate like, minerality and acidity. This one is grown in the deep sandy soils of Zotovich Vineyard where it is meticulously cared for and ripens slowly in the cool, foggy Sta. Rita air.
Tasting Note: This wine has a deep, rich, almost opaque purple color. The nose is filled with dark fruits. Blueberries and blackberries mix with pepper and woodsy spice. On the pallet more of those dark fruits are present wrapped in a rich mouth-feel. The body is full but crisp, cold climate acidity keeps it fresh and lively.
